Westerns Editorial Review
The movie "Hellgate" is a black and white film set in a notorious prison in the desert of New Mexico at the end of the Civil War. The Italian title, "Il Grande Inferno," perfectly captures the essence of the movie. The film follows the classic Western style, with attempted prisoner escapes and a surprising ending. The cast includes Sterling Hayden, Joan Leslie, and a young James Arness. Despite the engaging story and good performances, the DVD edition has received criticism for poor video quality and almost unintelligible Italian audio due to digital filters. Overall, the movie is enjoyable for fans of Westerns and prison films, although some viewers found the ending rushed. **
