The reviewer first read Little Women as a child and loved the character of Jo, who longed to be an author and was the antidote to every sugary sweet character in other books. Re-reading as an adult was an even richer experience, with Amy and Laurie's blossoming romance more poignant, Meg's experience of becoming a wife and then mother, and other characters such as Mr. Brooke and Professor Bhaer engrained in the mind forever. Alcott wrote about intimate family dynamics in a time when little was known about women's interaction and created a family full of women with very different personalities, who survived terrible trials because of their love for each other. The reviewer loved that the girls were each encouraged to pursue what they loved and thought it was a wise way to raise children. As one ages, one's perspective on this book changes, with different characters being admired more. Overall, the book is a beautiful story that everyone should read.
